
| Solid or Base: Self
colored dog such as Black & tan or Red or Chocolate & Tan. Meaning
the dog has no pattern.
Brindle: Striped all over. (occurs usually with reds or black & tans, but has been seen on other colors)
Sable: A true sable will appear to be black/tan from a distance. The undercoat beneath being red, Sable is a heavy layer of black over the base coat color.
Dapple: Dappling is spotting or marbling of a lighter color mixed in with a base coat color, can occur in all colors.If the dappling occurs in the eyes, the eyes can be blue or with blue flecks (doen't affect the sight only the color of the eye) It can appear with piebald pattern. Red dapple: is lighter red; black/tan dapple: is gray/silver; chocolate/tan dapple: is light fawn colored; blue/tan dapple: is lighter blue gray, isabella/tan dapple: is diluted fawn color.
Double Dapple: Same as Dapple but with areas of White. Both parents must be dapple to produce a double dapple.
Piebald: Areas of
self color on a white background. May also have ticking, which may just
be a few little spots or cover the entire dog.
Dapple Piebald: Areas
of self color on a white background with dappling appearing in some
or all of the colored areas.
Brindle Dapple: Brindle and Dapple are both a separate pattern however AKC does accept both patterns on one dog; they are registered as a dapple. This pattern is commonly seen on red. The base color (red) will have stripes of black in the color and teh dapple pattern also showing.
Brindle Piebald: Brindle and Piebald are both a separate pattern however AKC does accept both patterns on one dog; they are registered as a brindle piebald. This pattern is commonly seen on red or black & tan piebald. The base color (red or black & tan) will have stripes of black in the color with the piebald pattern also showing.
